Trapiche, Broquel Series – Iconic Wines from Argentina

Founded in 1883, Trapiche stands at the pinnacle of Argentinian winemaking. Located at the foothills of the Andes in Mendoza, the winery owns over 1,000 hectares of vineyards and collaborates with more than 300 local winegrowers. Known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability, Trapiche is one of Argentina’s most influential wineries.

The Broquel Series represents Trapiche’s premium wine collection. The word “Broquel” means “shield” and symbolizes family heritage. Each wine in this series comes from select vineyards located at altitudes around 1,200 meters above sea level, contributing to their unique flavor profiles.

Craftsmanship: From Vineyard to Bottle

Trapiche sources its grapes from the best wine regions of Maipú, Luján de Cuyo, and the Uco Valley. These regions, with their diverse soils and microclimates, impart distinct qualities to the wines.

The vinification process begins with hand-harvested grapes, carefully destemmed. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel and concrete tanks at a controlled temperature of 25-26°C for 20 days. After fermentation, the wine ages for 15 months in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, adding to the wine’s complexity and elegance.

The History of Trapiche: From Humble Beginnings to Global Fame

The story of Trapiche began with a small vineyard, El Trapiche, at the foothills of the Andes. Founder Don Tiburcio Benegas recognized the potential of Mendoza’s fertile alluvial soils and sunny climate. He planted the first vines and built a modest winery. What began as a local enterprise soon grew into one of Argentina’s largest and most influential wineries.

A key milestone in Trapiche’s history was the introduction of Malbec, a grape variety perfectly suited to Mendoza’s terroir. Trapiche’s Malbec quickly gained international acclaim, laying the foundation for Argentina’s global reputation as a wine-producing powerhouse.

Sustainability

Trapiche is a pioneer in sustainability. From water conservation to the use of renewable energy, the winery minimizes its environmental footprint. Additionally, Trapiche works closely with local farmers, which not only enhances the quality of its wines but also supports economic growth in Mendoza, fostering a strong connection to the region.
