Sourced from several vineyards in La Consulta and Chacayes in the Uco Valley (Mendoza, Argentina). The plots are situated at significant altitude along the foothills of the Andes, where the large temperature differences between day and night allow the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. The soils are alluvial with abundant rounded stones and sandy layers, which ensure excellent drainage and naturally low yields, resulting in concentrated berries.
The Malbec grapes are fully destemmed. Before alcoholic fermentation begins, the juice remains in contact with the skins for three days to gently extract colour and aromas. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 26 to 29 degrees and lasts around 18 days. This is followed by 13 months of ageing in used oak barrels, 80% French oak and 20% American oak, to provide structure and refinement without dominating the fruit.
Trapiche was founded in 1883 at the foot of the Andes and today owns more than 1,200 hectares of estate vineyards. In addition, it works closely with over 300 local growers to source grapes from the finest terroirs of Mendoza. This collaboration and scale allow the winery to benefit from a wide diversity of microclimates and soil types, enhancing complexity and consistency of style. The focus is on authentic expression of origin, precision in vinification and preserving the natural character of the grape and the high-altitude terroirs of the Uco Valley.
