After the fermentation process, a portion of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation within oak barrels, which transforms the sharp apple acids into milder milk-like acids. Meanwhile, the remaining wine continues to mature in stainless steel tanks on lees, also known as ‘sur lie,’ contributing to a softening effect and enhancing the wine’s complexity.
Hailing from the ‘Tera Alta’ vineyard in Valdadige, a wine region in northern Italy, these grapes are meticulously hand-picked. The name “Roeno” is a fusion of the founder Rolando’s name and the Greek word “Enos,” which means ‘wine.’ The winery is situated approximately 30 kilometers north of Garda, right on the border between Veneto and Alto Adige. Nevertheless, Roeno’s primary focus is on the Alto Adige terroir. Established in the 1960s, Roeno quickly gained a reputation among locals for its exceptional cuisine. What particularly sets Roeno apart is its production of high-quality wines sourced from terroirs rich in limestone.
Roeno maintains vineyards in various origin areas, including the relatively youthful IGP Vallagarina for Marzemino and Teroldego. The Rìvoli region, nestled between the town of Affi and its headquarters in Brentino Belluno, is regarded by Roeno as the prime location for Pinot Grigio.
