Sourced from several vineyards around the town of Alba in Piedmont, Italy. The vineyards are at an altitude of 400 metres and face south/southeast. The soil consists mainly of clay and limestone. The vines are around 25 years old.
After careful selection of the Nebbiolo grapes, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine then matures for 12 months in French tonneaux. These are large 350-litre barrels.
In rustic Serralunga d’Alba, in the heart of the Barolo DOCG, lies the cru Meriame, where Paolo Manzone has planted his Nebbiolo for his main wines. The vineyard dates back to 1948 and the vines are sometimes up to 70 years old. Manzone has taken inspiration from Burgundy and makes Barolos aged in French Burgundy barrels. They are Barolos in a fairly modern style, matching the approachable and somewhat earthy style Barolos delivered by the cru Meriame. The vineyards benefit from diverse soil compositions and microclimates, which contribute to the complexity and distinctiveness of his wines.
Manzone meticulously manages his vineyards to ensure the highest quality grapes, using sustainable and organic farming practices whenever possible. Paolo Manzone’s wines have received praise from wine critics and enthusiasts around the world. His commitment to quality and authenticity has earned him a place among the respected winemakers in the Langhe region. Manzone’s approach to winemaking not only honours Piedmont’s traditions, but also pushes the boundaries to constantly improve and innovate.
