Grown in two biodynamic, Demeter-certified vineyards – Finca el Fabián and Las Pedroñeras – located in La Mancha, Spain. The vines are 10 years old, and the region’s hot summers and cool winters create ideal conditions for biodynamic viticulture. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15–17°C.
The name Punctum literally refers to “the crossing”. The winery is situated in Las Pedroñeras, at the intersection of the provinces of Cuenca, Ciudad Real and Albacete. Founded in 2005 by the Fernández Cifuentes family, it has since become the most awarded organic producer in Spain, crafting modern wines from Tempranillo and Graciano alongside a wide range of international varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier and Petit Verdot.
La Mancha is Europe’s largest region for bulk wine production and was long seen as an area lacking identity. From the start, the estate set out to change that perception. Today it owns more than 250 hectares of vineyards that are fully organic and partly Demeter-certified. The Viento Aliseo range is one of its biodynamic flagship lines.
The current winemaker, Ruth Fernández Cifuentes, oversees the quality of all vineyard parcels, ensuring that they meet the standards of organic and partly biodynamic farming while keeping the wines accessible in price. The philosophy is to offer pure and easy-drinking styles in the whites, and more layered, characterful expressions in the reds.
In addition to La Mancha, the producer also crafts wines in other Spanish regions using grapes that are native to those areas, including Mencía from Bierzo, Bobal from Ribera del Júcar and Garnacha from Aragón. The portfolio also includes a pleasantly approachable orange wine.
